Responsibilities of the Pump Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Repair, fabricate, install and remove a variety of centrifugal, gear, diaphragm, and reciprocating pumps as well as other related rotating equipment
  • Assembling centrifugal pumps, overhung and vertical pumps
  • Using various pneumatic and hand tools
  • Driving forklifts and operating overhead cranes in a safe manner
  • Following safety and environmental rules, company policies and procedures


Qualifications of the Pump Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience working with centrifugal pumps is required
  • Ability to use various precision measuring devices
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and diagrams

Additional Information:

Physical Demand: Lift 50 lbs. and able to stand for long periods of time

Working Conditions: Field and Shop environment

Shift Time/Overtime: 7:00am-3:30pm including weekends and overtime

Education: High School diploma or GED



The purpose of this job description is to specify the duties of a Pump Repair Tech at Hi-   Speed Industrial Service.


The basic function of the Pump Repair Tech is to successfully, efficiently and profitably service & repair pumps and electrical apparatus as directed.


  1. The Pump Repair Tech reports to the Shop Manager.
  2. There are no positions reporting to the Pump Repair Tech.



  1. Required: High School Diploma or GED
  2. Licensing/Registration/Certification
  3. Required: Valid Drivers License.
  4. Preferred: Valid Drivers License with CDL and DOT health certification.


Required: Three-year's experience repairing, servicing and rebuilding industrial pumps.

Preferred: Five+ year's experience repairing, servicing and rebuilding industrial pumps.

Must be able to present job references.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to inspect & test various kinds of pumps for damage and evidence of conformance to industrial specification.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair various kinds of industrial pumps.
  • Ability to understand electrical circuits.
  • Ability to operate specialized repair and testing equipment.
  • Must be able to operate test equipment properly
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear and understandable way with other techs and supervisor.


  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Body positions: sitting, squatting, standing, lying down, etc.
  • Requires twisting turning and moving the body, arms, legs and hands to remove, install and repair various parts and systems.
  • Must have excellent eyesight and depth perception.
  • Must have full use of the body and senses to be able to service and repair industrial equipment.


  • Must speak English well enough to take instructions from supervisor and communicate with customers.
  • Must be able to read and write English well enough to complete and use repair work orders and instruction manuals.
  • Basic math comprehension to properly use technical manuals, test and repair equipment.


  1. The work is performed in a climate controlled shop free of extremes of temperature and humidity. There may on occasion be exposure to fumes, airborne particles and/or vibration. There is a risk of electrical shock or explosion if work is done improperly.


  1. Reports for work promptly as scheduled.
  2. Inspects and tests various kinds of industrial pumps.
  3. Identifies specification data and illustrates and/or documents all relevant information specific to the components.
  4. Prepares components, parts, materials, tools and test equipment for repair/rebuild in compliance with specifications as directed.
  5. Operates specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to: winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core loss testers, cut off saws, burnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems, and various hand power and non-power tools
  6. Inspecting components, equipment, structures, or materials to confirm conformance or identify the cause of failure, errors or other problems or defects.
  7. Making Decisions and Solving Problems ' Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  8. Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation
  9. Complete required electronic forms and paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  10. Operate specialized repair and testing equipment and other equipment as needed
  11. Communicating with Customers, Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates ' Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, electronic reporting, in written form, e-mail, or in person
  12. Reports to supervisor daily on work schedule and emergency repairs.
  13. Complete daily work orders as assigned by the supervisor.
  14. Follows all company policies and procedures.
  15. Maintain work area in a neat and clean condition. Ensure that area is picked up at the end of each job and each day.
  16. Follow all safety rules and regulations. This includes the use of prescribed safety equipment as required.
  17. Use company provided tools and equipment with care.
  18. Maintain an adequate supply of personal hand tools to perform repairs.
  19. Supply and maintain an inventory of all personal tools to supervisor for in house insurance file.
  20. Notifies supervisor of all needed parts and supplies.
  21. Accurately record hours worked, parts used and work performed on each piece of equipment on daily repair orders.
  22. All repair work orders are completed and submitted to the office at the end of each repair.
  23. Gathers all detailed information on the condition of customer equipment for the purpose of identifying correct materials and estimating times for repairs.
  24. Keep all shop tools and equipment in top working condition and advise supervisor of needed repairs or replacement.
  25. Assist other employees with technical knowledge.
  26. Dispose of all waste products in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws, rules and ordinances.
  27. Conducts himself in a professional manner with supervisors, fellow employees, vendors, customers and job-site personnel.
  28. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.


  1. The Pump Repair Technician's work will be deemed to be acceptable when:
  2. Completes all work orders on time or ahead of schedule.
  3. Completes all work orders at or below the estimated cost.
  4. Completes and submits all repair work orders and requisites accurately and timely.
  5. There are no power or hand tools unaccounted for.
  6. Maintains good working relationships with coworkers.
  7. Attendance and punctuality are acceptable.
  8. Complies with company policies and procedures.
  9. The work area at Hi-Speed and customer location and tools are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  10. The supervisor is satisfied with the quality and quantity of work performed.
